Big Sur

Big Sur

Soundtrack: Pacific - Sleeping at Last

This ceramic object bears the title 'Big Sur,' an ode to the majestic California coast where ocean and land meet in an eternal dance.

The undulating lines that move across the surface like a choreography capture the essence of this encounter. They tell the story of water carving its way over rocks, of wind drawing patterns in the landscape.

The dark surface evokes the mysterious depths of the ocean itself, while the subtle texture conjures the weathered cliffs and caves of Big Sur. The organic form swells like a wave forming before it breaks, with an opening at the top that serves as a window looking inward. Here, a delicate golden edge reveals itself, like the last ray of sunlight kissing the horizon at sunset.

In this work, primal power and refinement merge, with the robust form softened by the flowing lines. The object invites touch, to follow the lines with your fingers as your eyes trace the contours of a coastline. It is a still moment, captured in clay, translating the grandeur of nature into an intimate scale.
